Dear Taiwanese American Community,

I am urging you all to join me in calling your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives.  To many of you, I am known as the Census Campaign lead and/or as the Director of Civic Engagement for Taiwanese American Citizens League (TACL), but I am writing to you all today also as a Returned U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Ukraine during Ukraine’s Orange Revolution.

During the Orange Revolution, I witnessed Ukrainians bravely protesting for the future of their continued independence and democratic reform.  When Russia escalated their invasion of Ukraine on 2/24/2022, Putin was in fact waging a direct assault against Ukrainians’ right to remain independent and democratic.  The world can no longer stand by and do nothing to support Ukrainians in their continued struggle.  I also insist that this struggle is not just for Ukrainians, but for all of us peace-loving people who hold dearly our democratic values – this is a challenge for us all.

As the Ukrainians chanted during the Orange Revolution – “Razom nas bahato, nas ne podolati“ – translated into English, “Together we are many, we cannot be defeated” – I, too, believe that we must all stand together now against this assault on a fellow democracy and international law.

Please give your U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives a call and tell them that you support:

1. Continued push back at this Russian invasion with escalating sanctions

2. Continued support for the Ukrainian military

3. U.S.-led efforts to deliver humanitarian aid such as food and hospital supplies to Ukraine

Here is a good FAQ for more background on why we all need to support Ukraine.

Lastly, please post the flag of Ukraine or a picture of a sunflower – Ukraine’s national flower – with #StandWithUkraine on your social media to show your support for Ukraine.
