On Friday, June 26, Senators Markey and Rubio and Congressmen Yoho and Bera introduced into the Senate and House of Representatives the “Taiwan Fellowship Act” to create the Taiwan Fellowship program. The program would provide the US federal employees with a two-year fellowship to learn, live, and work in Taiwan. The participants of the program will be better positioned to advance US values and interests in the Indo-Pacific region by taking advantage of Washington’s strategic partnership with Taiwan.

The Taiwan Fellowship program has received the support of the administrations in both the United States and Taiwan as well as bipartisan support in Congress and now we need your help!

We ask that you contact your Senators and Representatives to let them know that you support this program. While phone calls are usually the preferred method of outreach, phones are currently not being answered due to COVID. Therefore, please send emails though the message intake system on each member’s website. Messages do not need to be long or detailed. Something like the below is sufficient:

Hello, my name is _______ and I am a resident in your State/District. I am writing to you to urge you to support and co-sponsor the Taiwan Fellowship Act to help create a lasting program of cooperation between the United States and Taiwan. The Taiwan Fellowship program will strengthen the position of the United States in the Indo-Pacific and serve as a vital signal to our democratic allies. The Taiwan Fellowship program is a very cost-effective way of training the next generation of Asia expertise within the United States. Please support the Taiwan Fellowship Act and see that it is passed this summer.

We ask that you contact your member of the House of Representatives and your two Senators. Your support is greatly appreciated and essential to making this program a reality.
