The word about TACL and TAP is spreading. This year at National Convention 2014 in Washington, DC, expect to see a few new faces in the crowd. We’ve got new board members coming out to represent TAP-Seattle, TAP-Atlanta, and TAP-Austin. Here’s a spotlight on some unique things each of the chapters have been doing.
Since we last saw our old friends from the Emerald City, they have had a number of events to continue building their chapter. TAP-SEA is all about educating and sharing their passion for Taiwan with the rest of their community by cooking and serving a Taiwanese menu at Ronald McDonald House and showcasing Taiwan at a festival booth during Taiwanese American Heritage Week. On the first of August, they are inviting people to hear Taiwanese-American author Jennifer J. Chow speak about how writing is important in helping us understand our identity. The team has also made great progress in re-building their board after suffering from some recently departed board members. Since their start in January 2014, our p-chapter in the Peach state has been steadily hosting at least 2 events per month. Some of the unique things that TAP-ATL members get to do include bettering the environment by planting trees and cleaning up parks and making “wheel cakes” at various Taiwanese food fairs. They also get to sport a TAP-ATL designed t-shirt! During Taiwanese American Heritage Week in May, the blog at tap-atl.org posted some fun facts about Taiwan every day. Subscribe to their blog and newsletter at http://www.tap-atl.org/subscribe/. Taking a page from TAP-NY’s playbook, one of their most recent events was part of a Mandarin Dinner Series, with over 25 people in attendance. Say a hearty howdy to TAP-ATX! While not yet an official p-chapter, the new board members have been keeping the momentum alive in the Live Music Capital of the World with some of their own live music of the karaoke variety. They’re also engaging the community through mahjong games and happy hours! Follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/tap.atx/ to see what they’re brewing up next!
