Black Lives Matter.
We are heartbroken and outraged at the continuing injustice and racial violence against Black people.
TACL stands with the Black community in calling for justice for the murder of George Floyd, protesting against police brutality, and advocating for reform of police institutions.
Many of the human rights and liberties that Taiwanese Americans and Asian Americans take for granted today were hard won by primarily Black activists and protestors during the Civil Rights Movement. We cannot stand by silently on the sidelines while that same community that fought for us fights for their own lives today.
We call on Taiwanese Americans and Asian Americans everywhere to join us in being vocal of our support for the hurting Black community, and to actively denounce hate, racial discrimination, and injustice.
There are many ways to take action, such as physically joining protests, supporting local black-owned businesses, self-educating about racial inequality and oppressive systems, examining and confronting one’s own biases and racist sentiments, starting meaningful discussions with our communities about anti-Blackness, providing pro-bono professional services to protestors, and so much more.
