TACL recently concluded the 2014 Political Internship Program. The program hosted interns in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. This year’s interns came from different universities from across the country, but all share a common passion for the Taiwanese American community. Many interns were referrals from Youth Camps, TAP Mentorship Programs, ITASA, and other partner programs. We look forward to watching these young leaders grow and continue to contribute to the community.
Over the summer, interns worked at the office of an elected official. Participating offices included elected officials from City, State, and Federal governments. In addition to learning the political ropes, the interns also worked on an Advocacy Project focused on an issue that is important to the Taiwanese American Community. The Los Angeles team focused on immigration reform, and the Washington, D.C. team worked on eliminating disparities in healthcare for communities of color. The interns’ research and policy briefs will be used by TACL and TAP members for Lobby Day during the National Convention in Washington, D.C. this September.
