We hosted our first ever Passport to Taiwan event with Austin Taiwanese Association (ATA) for Taiwanese American Heritage Week! We had a lot of people participate in the event by visiting select Taiwanese restaurants listed in the our Passport to Taiwan booklet and ordering the featured dishes and drinks. Some of the specials included the basil fried chicken from 101 by TeaHaus, Lu Rou Fan from Coco’s Cafe, and bubble tea from Kung Fu Tea.

Participants collected a stamp each time they ordered the featured item at each participating restaurant. They could also enter to win prizes by posting pictures of their Austin Passport to Taiwan adventure with the hashtags #lifeTA and #ATXPassport2Taiwan.

We had about 35 people come out to our closing party at 101 by TeaHaus on the last day of Taiwanese American Heritage Week. We also met a lot of new people from the community and gave out some awesome Taiwanese raffle prizes, including snacks, drinks, cookbooks, and a Tatung rice cooker!

We even got a proclamation from Austin’s District 6 Council Member Jimmy Flannigan officially declaring May 12 – 20, 2018 as Taiwanese American Heritage Week in Austin!

Thanks to everyone who participated as well as our sponsors (Austin 101 Realty and OCAC) for helping us out with this event. We hope to do it again next year!
