TACL’s mission to enhance the quality of life for Taiwanese Americans has served as our organization’s foundation since it was founded in 1985. However, over the past 33 years, the way we impact our community has evolved. In the past, we largely focused on developing Leadership, Identity, Networking, and Citizenship within our community. Now, the TACL National Board is building upon this framework to further guide our programming. After discussions with the leaders of our programs (LID, LYF, PIP, and TAP), we coalesced around five objectives to drive us toward achieving our organization’s mission:

TACL was founded to promote the rights and welfare of Taiwanese Americans and to foster active participation in U.S. society. We continue this legacy through events and civic engagement initiatives that share the heritage and perspectives of Taiwanese Americans with others.

The Taiwanese American community is rooted in the Taiwanese American identity. This presents a different journey for each individual, and TACL programs provide resources for that exploration, such as storytelling workshops, self-reflection and identity exploration activities, and discussions about our community’s history.

TACL’s programs have always been a medium for Taiwanese Americans to meet one another and develop real, lifelong relationships. We build fellowship locally and nationally through our programs, from youth camps to college internships to young professional communities.

We believe that through the support of deep relationships, Taiwanese Americans can take greater risks and make greater advancements in achieving their greatest potential, both personally and professionally. Through our programs, TACL creates environments that catalyze and enable Taiwanese Americans to pursue their passions.

TACL celebrates the achievements of Taiwanese Americans by highlighting them in our community. To inspire the next generation of leaders, TACL also builds platforms where generations can connect and learn from one another, such as mentorship programs.

Collectively, these five objectives form TACL’s approach to impact. While our programs (LID, LYF, PIP, and TAP) have already – and continue to – live and execute on these levers of impact, by putting them online and on paper, we hope to crystallize this approach for future leaders and generations.

We also acknowledge that this approach is dynamic and flexible: as the Taiwanese American community expands, this framework will continue to evolve. Even through these changes, TACL will always seek to best serve our community’s needs and enhance the quality of life for Taiwanese Americans.
