APPLY FOR THE CITIZENS REDISTRICTING COMMISSION TODAY!
Currently, less than 5% of California’s new redistricting commission applicants consist of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), which is not reflective of California’s diversity, where 15% of the state’s population is AAPI. Up-to-date statistics can be found at https://application.wedrawthelines.ca.gov/statistics.
TACL is encouraging its members and Taiwanese American community to apply to be one of the commission members. After Census 2010, the voting lines in California will be redrawn. Due to Proposition 11, a 14-person citizens commission will be in charge of redistricting in 2011. To apply, applicants must fill out an online form. The form can be found at http://www.wedrawthelines.ca.gov/ and the deadline is February 12, 2010
Asian American and Pacific Islander community organizations will be conducting application information workshops during January and the first part of February throughout the state of California to assist individuals with the application. A schedule of the workshops can be found at www.facebook.com/capafr2011.

TACL encourages youth to educate and help mobilize the community for the Census 2010 campaign and get a $500 grant
The US is conducting their decennial Census in 2010 and we invite students and groups to explain, “Why is it important for Taiwanese Americans to be counted in the Census?”
The objectives of the TACL Census 2010 grant contest are to:
- Increase awareness about Census 2010 and get students to think about its importance to the Taiwanese American community and how it relates to their community and future.
- Promote community involvement and social service.
- Recognize students with leadership qualities as well as a commitment to civic and public service.
