Taiwanese American Citizens League annually provides scholarships to graduating high school seniors, emphasizing excellence in not only scholarship, but in community involvement. Scholarship award recipients are encouraged to participate as volunteers in community events to qualify for the award, with the goal of stimulating and promoting well-rounded individuals, interested in community involvement. The scholarship is provided to all ethnicities, and is intended to encourage the development of future leaders.

2017 TACL-LA Taiwanese American Community Scholarship


  1. College-bound Los Angeles County high school seniors and juniors.
  2. Students who have demonstrated that their thoughts or actions have helped promote understandings and respect among different cultural and ethnic groups.


To be considered, the following items must be submitted for review:

  1. Complete application form
  2. A one-page biography -double spaced, Times New Roman, font size 12
  3. An essay of “How I contribute to and care about my community.” (No more than 600 words – double spaced, Times New Roman, font size 12)
  4. One letter of recommendation (from faculty, teacher, counselor, community leader, or supervisor).
  5. A copy of the most recent official transcript.


Please send via first class mail (no registered or certified mail) by April 15, 2017 the following package: completed application, biography, essay, letter of recommendation, and an official transcript.

Scholarship recipients, who will be announced by June 15, 2017, will each receive a scholarship of $500. The scholarships will be presented in an award ceremony. All recipients are required to attend TACL-LA’s Award Ceremony to receive the award.

Applications for the 2015 scholarship will be open until April 18, 2015 (be sure to check back for more details). Scholarship recipients will receive a $500 college scholarship and be recognized at the TAP Taiwanese American Cultural Festival on Saturday, May 9, 2015.


Applicant must:

  • Be a Bay Area resident
  • Support and be significantly involved in the Taiwanese American community
  • High school senior or college undergraduate student
  • Demonstrate significant involvement in the Taiwanese American community (i.e. leadership role) and a desire to continue their involvement
  • 1 unofficial school transcript

Selected recipient must be present at the Taiwanese American Cultural Festival to be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Union Square in San Francisco to receive their scholarship.

The application requires:

  • 2 short essays
  • 1 application form including a list of relevant community involvement, leadership activities, and/or work experience
  • 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, mentor, or supervisor
  • 1 unofficial high school transcript
