Leadership & Identity Development (LID) and Leading Youth Forward (LYF)

The Leadership Identity Development (LID) program is the youth development adjunct of the Taiwanese American Citizens League. Its goals are to educate the younger Taiwanese American generation, promote culture and community, instill a sense of social responsibility and provide an atmosphere where youth can gain leadership experience and insight in the context of their heritage.  Events and activities include college admissions workshops, and summer and winter camps.   The Summer camps in the Southern California region are titled LID Camp.  The Northern California Camps are titled Leading Youth Forward (LYF) Camp, formerly TAYL.  Click here for more information on LID Camp.  Click here for information on LYF Camp

Scholarship

Taiwanese American Citizens League annually provides scholarships to graduating high school seniors, emphasizing excellence in not only scholarship, but in community involvement.  Scholarship award recipients are encouraged to participate as volunteers in community events to qualify for the award, with the goal of stimulating and promoting well rounded individuals, interested in community involvement.  The scholarship is also provided to all ethnicities, and is intended to further the development of individuals through support of college costs, to develop as future leaders.  Click here for more information.

Summer Political Internship Program (SIP)

Taiwanese American Citizens League has sponsored several internships at various offices with the goal of stimulating and promoting long-term interest in all areas of service, both private and public.  The internship has since focused specifically on non-profit and piblic/governmental offices to develop leaders within our community.  Click here for more information on SIP.

Journalism Internship Program (JIP)

The Journalism Internship program is co-sponsored by Pacific Times, a Taiwanese American weekly newspaper based in Rosemead, California. The purpose of the program is to provide a learning experience for talented Taiwanese American youth who may choose journalism or media as their career. Journalism interns learn firsthand, the production and distribution of a newspaper and benefit from interactions with journalism and media professionals. Click here for more information.

Entertainment Internship Program (EI)

Entertainment Internship (EI) is a national initiative which seeks to place aspiring Taiwanese American students and professionals into the film and television industry and impact the intersection of Taiwanese Americans in the media. TACL is committed to producing the highest quality, innovative programs for the advancement of the quality of life and participation in greater society amongst Taiwanese Americans.  The EI program is a forum wherein young activists can explore and foster Taiwanese identity in a meaningful and impacting way that has long standing effects in the mainstream community and can lead to career choices not often promoted in the Taiwanese American community.  Click here for more information on EI.

Taiwanese American Professionals (TAP)

Originally started as a program of TACL, TAP has since become an official chapter, with its own local affiliates across the nation that currently include LA, SF, SD, Chicago, Boston, DC, and NY.  Join TAP's facebook group HERE.  It is now the largest network of young TA professionals in the US.  TAP's mission is to enhance the Taiwanese-American community by networking individuals interested in professional and career development, while emphasizing the preservation of Taiwanese American identity. TAP provides resources and programs that inspire and empower; develop and support professionals to become community-oriented leaders.  Click here for the TAP website.

Leadership Development Short Workshops

These short educational workshops are part of an overall curriculum to help Taiwanese Americans gain critical leadership skills and community involvement information. Public speaking, organizational skills, time management, and various other workshop topics are available. In addition, Civics 101, Voter Registration, Issues Campaigns, are also offered.  These workshops are also now often offered under TAP's professional development seminars.

Community Organizing Retreat (CORE)

As part of leadership development, TACL sponsors a weekend long retreat workshop for organizational leaders. Rudimentary skills required for leading effective organizations in the non-profit context are conveyed. Public speaking, moderating contentious forums, conflict resolution, and assertiveness training are provided. Legal and financial matters that are important to non-profits are presented, as are fundraising and grantwriting methodology.
