President's Message

Seasons Greetings!  We have a very exciting and event-filled season for TAP.  During this season of giving, we want to remind you all to give back.  We are again participating in Heartfelt Foundation's Christmas Toy Drive.  So please bring a toy to the TAP X-Mas Dinner Party/Toy Drive/Gift Exchange at Cha Cha Cha on Saturday, December 6th, 7:00PM.  More details and RSVP here.  We will also be organizing a group of volunteers to help deliver the presents we collect.  If you're interested in this event on December 12th, please visit here.

The following day, we're changing it up with something different:  a TV Show Outing! We are going to see P. Diddy's New show "Starmaker."  Take advantage of the fact you live in LA and come hang out with your fellow TAP members at MTV's taping of this show.  RSVP here.  For cultural experiences in the month of December, we've partnered with the Taiwanese United Fund for the Taiwan Film Festival coming up on Friday, December 12th (and runs through the 14th).  We'll meet at 7:00PM for the reception and stay for the free movie Chocolate Rap at 8:30PM.  RSVP here.

Other events of interest this month include an event of which TAP is a Community partner: Asian Pacific Legislative Staff Networks' Monday Mingler on Monday, December 8th, 6:00PM.  For information, click here.

Lastly, save the date to party with us on New Years Eve at the House of Glam Event. Last year was a blast and we're looking forward to being apart of this year's party. Shhh. Don't tell anyone, but we have a limited number of tickets that we can presell at a discount. Please contact me at ed.chen@tacl.org or Yvonne Hsu, TAP's Vice-President, at yvonne.hsu@tacl.org.

Please visit our site for a full list of our upcoming events!

Best,

Ed Chen

TAP is very excited to announce that we are supporting the Heartfelt Foundation Annual Christmas Service Project.

THE HEARTFELT FOUNDATION is sponsoring a Christmas/Holiday party for hundreds of children in-need from ages 1-15 living throughout the greater Los Angeles community.

Last year, more than 1,500 impoverished children and their families attended the event. The event included ponies and a petting zoo, music, entertainment, hot food, cookies and candy, refreshments and ice cream, clowns, music, games and activities, a beautiful Santa's Village, and of course, Santa and toys for every child. 200 volunteers lent their hearts, hands and energy to providing a loving and transformational experience for children in the most desperate of circumstances.

We invite you to volunteer to help us (and Santa) distribute gifts, toys, lead fun activities and bring special cheer to these underprivileged children and their families.

The volunteer shift will be on Saturday, December 13 from 9AM - 3PM. Volunteer responsibilities may vary. Only 10 volunteer spots available!

Want to help out but can't volunteer?

No worries! TAP is also assisting the Heartfelt Foundation with collecting toys for the event!

Please wrap the toys and indicate the gender and age group the toy is suitable for (ages 1-15). Please try to refrain from toys Made in China. Must be dropped off by Friday, December 12 at:

  1. San Gabriel Valley - Contact: Joy Cheng or Ed Chen.

  2. West LA - Contact: Rick Chang.

  3. Downtown LA/Hollywood - Contact: Yvonne Hsu.

  4. Orange County - Contact: Ben Ling.

TAP will also be collecting toys at our TAP Christmas Dinner on December 6, 7:00PM, at Cha Cha Cha, 656 N. Virgil, Los Angeles, CA.  More details and RSVP here.

Heartfelt Foundation Wishlist: 2,000 toys for kids ages 1-15.

Let's give them a heartfelt christmas!  Hope to see you there!

1st L.A. Taiwanese Film Festival

The film festival is being organized by TUF, in collaboration with UCLA and the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Los Angeles. The inaugural event will offer a representative yet diverse cross-section of Taiwan's contemporary cinema. The festival is expected to attract serious film buffs interested in the current state of Taiwanese film, as well as more casual fans eager to enjoy a top-notch slate of best Taiwanese films in recent years.

Feature films include Cape No. 7, Do Over, Reflections, Chocolate Rap and Secret. Documentary selections include For More Sun, The Squid Daddy's Labor Room, Grandma's Hairpin and Viva Tonal (aka The Dance Age).

The three-day festival will be kicked off by an opening wine and hors d'oeuvres reception, and concluded with a formal closing reception. TUF, the initiator of the festival, has been engaged in cultural exchanges since 1986. Through collaboration and networking with other organizations and academic institutions, TUF has grown to become a leading Taiwanese American association in the United States to celebrate the Taiwanese cultural heritages and America's cultural diversity.
