CHAPTER UPDATE: 8 Things You Need to Know About TAP-SF’s Epic Camping Trip

By: Stephanie Sung, TAP-SF President

On June 3rd, TAP-SF and 35 members took on Lassen Volcanic National Park for our inaugural camping trip. Many came from far and wide – shoutouts to relentless friends who trekked to Lassen from Oregon, Los Angeles, and San Diego. With a U-Haul truck full of food and supplies, we embarked on an active weekend of food and fast friendships.

This trip just might become a tradition to get away from our busy lives to enjoy nature and get to know each other better (a lot better) as we continue to build our Taiwanese American community.

Here are 8 things you need to know about this year’s trip:

  1. When you arrive at the campsite at 3am in morning after a grueling day of work and a 5 to 6-hour drive, people were awake to greet you with ramen and brats right off fire.

  2. Waking up to a legit Taiwanese breakfast cooked at a campsite in the middle of the woods – our menu was turnip cake (蘿蔔糕), green onion pancakes with eggs (蔥油餅加蛋), leek pockets (韭菜盒子), and vitasoy!!! #lifeta #taiwanese4life #howdidwedoit

  3. After an intense hike up the volcano, the view coupled with your cold noodles catered by Taiwan Bento and chrysanthemum tea for lunch made it worth it. #breathtaking

  4. Not to mess with Alex Wu.

  5. Hot pot dinner!!!

  6. Learning how people think on their feet with improv around the camp fire.

  7. You might have been serenaded by guitar with your Taiwanese pop favorites: Jay Chou, Leehom Wang, and Mayday among others.

  8. Leaving the weekend with new friends and more trips to follow.

We’ll be seeing you next year for our next camping trip! #LifeTA
